A six-game winning streak helped St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes reach the District V 6A basketball tournament. But the Patriots (15-4) now are looking ahead, trying to get back on track after Monday’s quarterfinal loss to Crofton.
St. Stephen’s will play in the consolation bracket at Roland Park on Monday.
In 5A, Theodore Roosevelt reached the state tourney by beating La Plata in the Howard County championship. The Redskins (16-3) then beat Crestwood in a regional semifinal, to the delight of their packed-house home crowd. The Redskins will play the Queen Anne’s County champion at UMBC on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Hayden Jamison scored all 24 of his points in the second half as Damascus beat Arcadia to earn a 4A girls basketball championship. The Olympians (24-2) advanced to play Frederick in the state semifinal at Patuxent on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Jenny Formosa scored 18 points and Meg Carpenter had 14 points as Frederick beat Bowie to earn a berth in the state championship game. The Frederick girls (23-2) will play in the state semifinals at UMBC on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Lindsey Dunn scored nine of her 13 points in the first half and Erin Page had nine of her 12 points in the third quarter as Holton-Arms beat Manassas Adventist for the District 2 2A girls basketball championship. The Knights (22-2) will face Center Point in a state semifinal on Saturday at 2 p.m. at UMBC.
Kiley Mullins scored 18 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and had nine blocks as Easton beat Strathmore in the District 1 1A championship. The Cobras (15-5) will face Potomac in a state semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m. at UMBC.
