A labourer at the construction site for actor Salman Khan's Dabangg Tour, which had been set at Reddi Stadium near Bhandup, died on Thursday. He was working on a power loom, according to the civic officials.

The labourer, Mahinder Kumar, of Bhandup's Shanti Nagar, was from the Bhayander locality, residents of whom have been opposing the construction of a 5-lane flyover at Reddi Stadium. They had filed a petition in the High Court, claiming their area was in the path of the flyover.

V. Kishore, assistant municipal commissioner, who is handling the construction of the beleaguered project, told mid-day: "The deceased had other visits to the civic hospital. He was admitted for Hepatitis B and C. He had also returned to hospital three days ago as he was under treatment. The power loom was the last place where he was allowed to work on the site."

The power loom was operating on the plot earmarked for erecting the tunnel flyover. However, a concrete tube with a small width of 10 feet was built around the area, and workers were asked to put in four feet into the tube.

When the Looms Cooperative and Vocational Society, which was running the power loom, filed a petition against the construction, the municipal commissioner ordered a probe into the matter, and officials of the public works department and civil engineering department were ordered to conduct an inspection. A decision on the next course of action would be taken after they submit their report, sources said.
